On the eve of New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation 2024 primary on Tuesday, US Senator Tim Scott will endorse Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump at a New Hampshire rally Friday night.
Scott dropped out of the presidential race last November before Iowa’s caucuses were held this past week, where voters chose Trump over fellow primary candidates, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
Trump won over 50%; DeSantis came in second and Haley came in third.

Scott traveled to Florida Friday to accompany Trump to New Hampshire for the rally. His endorsement could likely ignite further discussion about Scott as a potential running mate with the former president.
Scott is the highest-ranking elected Black Republican in the nation.
When Scott stopped his campaign, the senator said at that time that he was not ready to endorse anyone “anytime soon.”
During the 2020 Republican National Convention, Trump gave Scott a coveted role as keynote speaker. More recently, when Scott was running as a presidential candidate, both he and Trump mildly criticized each other.
Haley has been campaigning hard in New Hampshire and even suggested earlier in the campaign that if she lost in Iowa that New Hampshire voters would "correct" the record. She has been steering the competition in New Hampshire since the Iowa caucus as a two-party contest between herself and Trump.
The ever-popular New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has not only endorsed Haley, but has campaigned along side the candidate in the Granite state.
Sununu predicted in early January that Haley would come in first in New Hampshire and in recent days claimed that the campaign said that Haley was always expected to come in second in New Hampshire.
In a statement on Friday, Haley said: “Interesting that Trump’s lining up with all the Washington insiders when he claimed he wanted to drain the swamp. But the fellas are gonna do what the fellas are gonna do.”
Scott’s support comes on the heels of two endorsements from two of Trump’s former 2016 presidential rivals: Senator Ted Cruz of Texas backed Trump after he won the Iowa caucuses on Monday and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida said he supported Mr. Trump the day before the Iowa caucus.
Scott’s endorsement should lift Trump’s political position in New Hampshire, and also in South Carolina, Haley’s home state, where the republican primary will be February 24.
Scott’s endorsement of Trump may come also as a slap to Haley. As Governor of the Palmetto state, Haley appointed Scott to the Senate in 2012. Scott has a very high favorability rating of 78% in South Carolina and a 67% favorability rating in New Hampshire.
The South Carolina democratic primary is February 3.
