Now Erdogan's aggressive and illegal oil exploration in Greek international waters is leading members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to war as a naval incident today sparked alarm in Western capitals.
During a televised news conference on Thursday Erdogan accused Greece of an 'attack' on one of its naval vessels escorting the exploration ship Oruç Reis.
“We have already told them that if they attack Oruç Reis, in response, there would be a heavy price to pay. And we have given the first response today,” reported Turkish state media.
France has moved ships and aircraft into the area to support Greece in its conflict with the Islamist regime, which guards NATO's southern flank since the 1950s.
Greece's prime minister warmly thanked France Thursday for boosting its military presence in the eastern Mediterranean, where Greek and Turkish warships are closely shadowing each other over a Turkish energy exploration bid in waters Athens claims as its own, reported The Christian Science Monitor.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis tweeted that French President Emmanuel Macron was "a true friend of Greece and also a fervent protector of European values and international law."
Erdogan has angered North African countries as well with his actions, leading Egypt's government to threaten direct military action if Turkey continued to support the Government of National Accord in Libyan territory with airstrikes and Sunni mercenaries sent from Syria against General Haftar's forces in the Libyan civil war.
President Al-Sisi warned Turkey, and the extremist militias and mercenaries it backs in western Libya, not to embark on any military adventures beyond a line drawn from Sirte to Jufra. According to military experts, the Sirte-Jufra line demarcates a crucial buffer for Egyptian national security and any hostile steps beyond it would constitute aggression against Egypt, reported Ahram Online.
At a minimum Turkey's inclusion in the NATO alliance needs to be reviewed. Yes, it is an opportunity for Russian President Vladimir Putin to split the alliance, a long held dream of his.
However, can Western capitals trust Turkey? That is the question.

As far as I am concerned, Europe can take care of themselves. I think NATO is a relic of the cold war and not needed today. Let the principals fight it out if need be. We should stay as far away from this crap as we can.
How can Turkey remain in NATO when they were kicked out of the F-35 deal for bringing Russian Federation military anti-aircraft experts to Turkish air bases, where US flies our military aircraft?

It is all history folks. Muslim Turkey will NEVER be part of Europe and should not be part of NATO. Turkey/Ottomans has been at war with Europe since the 8th Century.

It's long past time to bring Russia in as an ally against the 1000 year-old threat of Islam. Iran and now Turkey are openly challenging the de-facto Christian West to stop them from absorbing territories and peoples into their wished-for Caliphate; Russia is key to the next defeat of Muslim expansion, hopefully the final war of liberation of the many peoples who have fallen into slavery under that odious ideology.
Good news. NATO needs to be destroyed if there is to be any peace on this planet.
