Fox 11 TV news (Los Angeles) reported in late April that Claudia Frometa, the mayor of Downey, CA in the Los Angeles area, said she is receiving death threats.
Frometa said that ever since she was dubbed the "MAGA mayor" by a council member, the death threats began.
"The mayor says the threats are frightening," said Fox 11 news reporter Gina Silva. "She wants to track down who is behind them."
On social media, Mayor Frometa said, "Recently I received messages through official city channels that said, 'We're going to kill her for treason, and it should have been your family that got stabbed at the library.'"
The stabbing refers to an earlier incident in Downey.
The mayor also said, "As a mother, it shook me to my core. It is important for us not to normalize these types of threats and behaviors."
Frometa said that the Downey police department is investigating the threats.
