Armenian prosecutors under the government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have filed charges against the head of the Armenian Apostolic Christian Church, preventing his travel from the country.

Armenia holds a special place in the history of Christianity, as the first official Christian country in existence after Saint Gregory the Illuminator Christianized the area. Approximately two million Christians were killed during the Armenian genocide. This reality makes the current persecution of the church by the Pashinyan government all the more shocking, as the Western world stands by quietly.

It is believed Pashinyan is attacking the Christian Church as he sees it as political opposition. The excuse the government is using is that church leadership is working in concert with Russian intelligence to destabilize Armenian society, similar to the excuse used in Ukraine for destroying the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

RA " Prosecutor's Office to initiate criminal proceedings against Catholicos of All Armenians Saroyan Arman (Gevorg Bishop) for obstructing the execution of a judicial act on charges: This is a very embarrassing action on the part of the authorities.",- said Lawyer Ara Zohrabyan, reported CivilNet.

The Pashinyan government seems intent on destroying the role of the Apostolic Church in Armenian life. The government has attempted to occupy the seat of the church at Etchmiazdin, the site of the first Christian cathedral in world history, only to be repelled by parishioners.

In addition, Azeri President Aliyev said today at the Munich Security Conference that Armenian Christian hostages held for years in prison in Baku after the end of the recent war in Nagorno-Karabakh, will not be released from prison. Azeri, and Armenian leaders for that matter, fear the political consequences of the release of Christian leaders from confinement -- a threat to their power.

The Trump administration has stayed silent during this Christian persecution, focusing instead on trade relations and the development of the Trump Route for Peace and Prosperity connecting Muslim Turkey and Azerbaijan through Armenian territory.

Armenian PM Pashinyan has said in some Armenian circles he has a green light to attack the Christian church from the Trump administration. Vice President J.D. Vance was just in both countries and the issue of Christian persecution was not raised in public.

London Attorney Robert Amsterdam outlines the seriousness of the situation in the following video from Euromedia 24. After a short introduction in Armenian, the majority of the video is in English.
