New Prime Minister expected to be named by the end of the week

2024 alone saw four separate Prime Minister share time in office: Elisabeth Borne (May 22 - Jan 24); Gabriel Attal (Jan 24 - Sep 24); Michel Barnier (for only three months following Attal); and now Francois Bayrou (Dec 24 - present); although he is expected to resign today following a vote of no-confidence yesterday.
The French National Assembly voted 394 in favor of no-confidence with 194 against, well above the threshold of 280 required votes. Some are attributing this loss of confidence to Bayrou’s unpopular spend plans that proposed $51B in savings including cancelling two public holidays and freezing government spending.
President Emmanuel Macron is expected to named a successor in the next few days, with Armed Forcers Minister Lecornu and Justice Minister Darmanin speculated to be front runners to replace Bayrou, but last year’s high turnover and divisive party lines have made it increasingly difficult for President Macron to find his own Winston Churchill to unite the country in a grim time for the French government.
