Marine Le Pen, front runner in the French presidential election, issued a dire warning to the globalist establishment: Ukraine war is heading in one of two directions — and both are extremely bad for Europe. Either NATO gets dragged into the war and there's a third world war or it drags on for a hundred years — a real Hundred Years' War.
Le Pen commented on the ongoing war in Ukraine during a recent meeting, stating that the conflict had already surpassed the duration of the First World War. "However, this war is not discussed seriously," she said. "There are 2 million victims. This is a real slaughter. It is terrible."
There is no solution in the sight of the political class in Brussels and Washington. All they seem to believe is that Ukraine has to fight on indefinitely, that NATO must continue to supply arms in unlimited quantities and that any kind of negotiation would have to be immediately rejected as "appeasement" in the worst tradition of the past.
Le Pen also said that she believes that a serious negotiating table for a settlement to the conflict would include Germany, Poland, Turkey and herself as France. "I believe that the historic role of France is precisely to create the conditions for a negotiation that precedes peace, as we did for Vietnam," she said.
And the British? Le Pen brought particular venom for Boris Johnson who, she claimed, had jetted to Kyiv in April 2022 in order to stifle a peace deal that was on the cusp of being signed. "Boris Johnson – the English – are always extremely warlike, often at the request of the Americans, we have to say," she said.
This is not an extreme position. According to Ukrinsky Pravda, Johnson had arrived in Kyiv to inform the Ukrainian leader that the West was not yet ready for a peace agreement and that he should continue the fighting. And so the bloodshed of hundreds of thousands of victims continued for years. As Marine Le Pen estimated, two million people have been killed in the Ukraine conflict so far.
The America First movement has long argued that Ukraine is not in the American national interest. In order to arm Ukraine to the teeth, the U.S. is draining its own stockpiles and paying for an extraordinary surge in the defense budgets of other countries. The ultimate goal of this policy, a de facto mobilization of NATO for war with a nuclear power, remains unclear. Long ago, President Trump had declared an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine, and on the campaign trail in 2024, he reiterated his position.
As the leading candidate ahead of the French presidential election, Marine Le Pen is today the most important European voice urging an end to the senseless slaughter and outlining an alternative to endless war which is not surrender: it is diplomacy. The negotiating table is not weakness. It is what serious nations do when the alternative is another hundred years of killing.
