Conservative Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay was shot in the back of the head today at a campaign event. You can watch the assassination attempt below.
There is no word on his status except that it is serious and he remains hospitalized.
His conservative Democratic Center party released a statement calling it an “an unacceptable act of violence," reported AP.
The attack took place in a park in the Fontibon neighborhood when armed assailants shot him from behind, his party said.
Uribe Turbay is a right-wing senator and the son of a journalist who was kidnapped and killed during one of the most violent periods in the country, which has been ravaged by a drug war. He is considered a possible presidential candidate in Colombia’s election in May 2026.
Remember Brazil former president Jair Bolsonaro when he was stabbed to death when he was in presidential campaign in 2018 and won. Nowaday he is being persecuted as well as many rightists and acused with illegal judiciary processes by the same leftists, now in government, that tried to kill him.
