Details are sparse but it looks like conflict has begun for U.S. naval and other military assets deployed off the coast of Venezuela in recent weeks.

President Trump confirmed in a White House press conference that American armed forces had struck a vessel departing from Venezuela alleged involved in narco-trafficking.

There has been reaction from the Maduro regime in Caracas in response to the U.S. force build up, with the Venezuelan dictator making public overtures to Beijing for help.

Marco Rubio -- "Today the U.S. military conducted a lethal strike in the southern Carribbean against a drug vessel which had departed from Venezuela and was being operated by a designated narco-terrorist organization."

There are no additional details released yet on the operation.
