This refining of fuels debacle did not come out of thin air. As America is reset to America First principles, we are finding tripwire after tripwire on how the American system morphed into servicing the Globalist agenda, not the American agenda.
The latest one is refining capacity, and specifically diesel refining capacity.

President Trump is righting the American Ship of State to focus on American priorities.
Part of this is new refining capacity which has just been announced. The first new refinery since the 1970s.
Should the Defense Production Act and the Army Corps of Engineers be thrown at this problem also? Probably not a bad idea.
Linking American refining capacity to the world market might possibly be a somewhat good idea at certain times. But at times like now, it sends American refined diesel fuel to Europe, when the priority is the American market.
The European refining capacity is in far worse shape than the American capacity.
This is not the best analogy, but intertwining American refining capacity with the world is like using corn for ethanol. This commingles the food market with the energy market.
American refining capacity is now commingled with the world market for refined product.
The problem is that the current American capacity has little room for surge due to years of avoiding capital expenditures to increase capacity. The Europeans have let their refining capacity whither considerably.
Nothing wrong with exporting American refined product if there is a robust surge capacity to ensure the American demand for refined product is not assailed by the European devastation of their own refining capacity.
