The U.S. military has begun a phased withdrawal from its Conoco base in eastern Syria’s Deir ez-Zor, signaling the first step in a broader pullout, reports local press.
According to SDF-linked sources, a first convoy of 70+ vehicles left ten days ago, followed by a second convoy of over 200 vehicles on April 13.
The surveillance balloon hasn’t flown in over a week, indicating a wind-down in operations.
The troops and equipment have been relocated to Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan—not fully withdrawn.
The base included: A training center, Helicopter pad, Patriot missile systems, Bradley armored vehicles

REUTERS: The U.S. military is set to consolidate its presence in Syria over the coming weeks and months, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Tuesday, in a move that could reduce the number of troops it has in the country by half.
The US is planning to withdraw its forces from Syria, writes Foreign Policy. The US has been under constant attack in Syria for months and American troops are very vulnerable there because, unlike Iraq, the US has no ties with the central government in Syria. According to reports, the US-backed Kurdish militias are also in negotiations to align themselves with Bashar al Assad.
