We have been discussing and reporting at CDM the likely impossibility of a successful deployment of American contractors to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip during the Israeli military operation in the territory.
It seemed patently obvious to any educated observer that a few hundred former military contractors deployed into the area would expose them to Hamas incoming fire and propaganda.
We were right.
President Trump needs better advisors than what he is getting. American personnel should not be in the ground in Gaza.
Trump should focus on getting us out of the forever wars, not getting involved in new ones.

The incident happened at a US-backed group's aid distribution site in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation is the linchpin in the new system which confines humanitarian food distribution to a small number of hubs which are under guard of armed contractors.
But in their first attempt, the organization's site got swarmed by an onrush of hungry Palestinians, after the UN earlier this month warned that some 500,000 people face famine. Israeli media confirms that the American contractors fled the scene.
A Times of Israel report details:
Footage posted to social media showed crowds surging into the area and taking boxes of food.
The IDF, which secures the area around the facility, confirmed that troops fired warning shots outside the compound, but denied reports claiming it opened fire from a helicopter or towards the center itself.
A military source said an Israeli Air Force helicopter was operating over the sea at the time of the incident, but not anywhere close to the distribution site.
“Control over the situation was established, food distribution operations are expected to continue as planned, and the safety of IDF troops was not compromised,” the military added.
According to Palestinian reports, the American security personnel charged with securing the area fled the scene. There were no reports of casualties in the incident.

As part of the ongoing efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, four aid distribution centers were established in recent weeks, in accordance with the directive of the political echelon and in close coordination with the United States.
The centers are operated by international aid organizations and secured by an American civilian security company in the Gaza Strip.
As part of the gradual opening of the distribution centers, two of the centers, located in Tel al-Sultan and the Morag Corridor in the Rafah area, began operating today (Tuesday) and are distributing food packages to thousands of families in the Gaza Strip.
The establishment of the distribution centers took place over the last few months, facilitated by the Israeli political echelon and in coordination with the US government. This process coincided with an ongoing dialogue and cooperation with the IDF, through the Southern Command and COGAT, as well as international aid organizations, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and the American civilian security company. As part of this process, four centers were established across the Gaza Strip by the American civilian security company, alongside operational preparations on the ground, in cooperation with the aid organizations, and the international community.
The IDF will continue to facilitate humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip, while making every possible effort to ensure that the aid does not reach the hands of the Hamas terrorist organization.
