[Batroun, Lebanon] - The ancient Phoenician town of Batroun, sitting north of Beirut on the Mediterranean Sea, is a jewel to behold, and a must visit for any wandering travel nomad of the Middle East. It is one of the oldest continuously populated cities of the world.

The main Political Party of this city is the Free patriotic movement. Batroun is the village of Gebran Bassil the leader of the FPM, and the town's redevelopment into a tourist destination was his brainchild.

Reminding me of Split, Croatia on a smaller scale, the history is evident by the architecture and the ruins of the Phoenician sea wall.

The atmosphere is free and happy. The cuisine is spectacular.

I'm going to study this region more when I get back to the U.S.

I highly recommend going out of your way to visit.
