The Trump administration has achieved at least on paper the initial stages of a peace deal between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The deal includes release of prisoners on both sides, aid to Gaza residents, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from approximately 70% of the disputed territory.
President Trump has been intimately involved in the negotiations that in part played out on national TV, as Secretary of State Rubio had to leave a televised meeting with Trump present.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has just spoken with US President Donald Trump.
The two held a very warm and emotional conversation, congratulating each other on the historic achievement of signing the agreement for the release of all the hostages.
The Prime Minister thanked President Trump for all his efforts and for his global leadership, while President Trump praised the Prime Minister for his determined leadership and the actions he has taken.
In addition, the Prime Minister invited President Trump to address the Knesset of Israel. (h/t Clash Report)
Living Israeli hostages will be released in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, reported AFP.
Hamas reacted as well. Senior Hamas official Izzat al-Risheq declared, "What the occupation failed to achieve through genocide and starvation over two full years, it did not succeed in achieving through negotiation.
"We affirm that the sacrifices of our people will not be in vain, and that we will remain committed to the pledge and will not abandon our people's national rights until freedom, independence, and self-determination are achieved.
"We call on President Trump, the guarantor countries of the agreement, and various Arab, Islamic, and international parties to obligate the occupation government to fully implement the agreement's entitlements.
"We highly appreciate the efforts of the brotherly mediators in Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye, and we also value the efforts of US President Donald Trump seeking to permanently stop the war and the full withdrawal of the occupation from the Gaza Strip."
Senior US official to Axios -- The hostages will be released 72 hours after the Israeli cabinet approves the agreement. The assessment is that this will happen no later than Monday.
Netanyahu -- Tomorrow I will convene the government to approve the agreement and bring all our dear hostages home.
