Today, Iranian Drones Struck Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan International Airport in the Azeri exclave connected via the Trump Route for Peace and Prosperity to the Azeri mainland through southern Armenia.
Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan said attacks on the country’s civilian infrastructure “will not go unanswered,” adding that response measures are being prepared to protect Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, civilians, and critical infrastructure. The ministry also stated that full responsibility lies with Iran for the attacks.
Azerbaijan said two people were injured after Iranian drones entered its territory over the Nakhchivan exclave.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi responded to reports that drones struck Nakhchivan International Airport in Azerbaijan, saying Tehran does not target neighbouring countries and that the incident must be investigated, reported Clash Report, a Turkish media entity.
Speaking to AnewZ as reports of the attack emerged, Gharibabadi said that only countries hosting military bases of their enemies would be targeted.
Iran’s General Staff stated that Iran was not responsible for a drone launched toward Azerbaijani territory, declaring Israel is responsible for the drone incident in Azerbaijan and carried it out to blame Iran.
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev stated, "A terrorist act has been carried out against the Azerbaijani state by Iran. Our Armed Forces have been instructed regarding Iran’s drone strikes. Iranian officials must provide an explanation and issue an apology to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is not participating and will not participate in operations against Iran. This is not the first time that the Iranian state has carried out terrorist acts against Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis.
"Azerbaijan will not tolerate this unjustified terrorist act."
