IDF destroys Hezbollah's underground terror infrastructure beneath Ali al-Taher Ridge in Lebanon.
The tunnels and bunkers located beneath the Ridge were destroyed by the Israeli military, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Thursday. With this action Israel has completed the establishment of a security zone at the Ridge, above and below ground.
The tunnel network extended for over two kilometers under the Ridge. IDF forces found dozens of rockets and missiles produced by Iran, including unmanned aerial vehicles, scores of machine guns, dozens of anti-tank missiles, hundreds of mines, and containers of explosive devices intended for terrorist operations, reported JPost.
At the heart of the vast tunnel complex, deep beneath the Ali al-Taher Ridge, was the command center of Hezbollah's Badr Unit — set up to launch an offensive against northern Israel. According to the IDF, this complex contained dedicated command rooms, vast storage facilities for rockets, missiles and drones, as well as living quarters where Hezbollah fighters could remain underground for extended periods before emerging to strike.
The destruction was felt far and wide. Lebanese media reported a 4.1-magnitude earthquake in the area following the detonation, as Army Radio confirmed the seismic activity was caused by the controlled demolition sequence of the tunnel network.
Netanyahu and Katz described the destroyed complex as a "strategic terrorist network" built over two decades with Iranian funding and planning. It was designed to serve as the launching pad for a Hezbollah operation to conquer the Galilee, with fire control and observation points covering the Israeli towns of Metulla and Kiryat Shmona — communities that absorbed years of Hezbollah rocket fire.
Prime Minister Netanyahu on X: "Tonight we dismantled and destroyed the biggest Iranian outpost outside of Iran, in Lebanon — the Ali el-Taher tunnels. A two-decade investment by the Iranians. A network planned by Iran and operated by Hezbollah on behalf of Iran — a forward Iranian operating outpost, destroyed tonight."
