Trump says vital for 'Golden Dome'

President Donald Trump this morning posted on his Truth Social channel that the United States needs Greenland to secure its skies via the 'Golden Dome', an anti-missile system similar to the 'Iron Dome' in Israel.
Greenland’s government has said it “cannot under any circumstances accept” Donald Trump’s desire to take control of Greenland, as Nato’s secretary general, Mark Rutte, said the organization was working on ways to bolster Arctic security, reported The Guardian.
Trump's Arctic commissioner, Thomas Dans, says Trump's desire to annex Greenland will not be thwarted, action could come within "weeks or months."
Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., is introducing a bill on Monday aimed at authorizing Trump "to take such steps as may be necessary" to acquire Greenland and set it on the pathway of becoming part of the United States, reported Fox News.
"I think it is in the world's interest for the United States to exert sovereignty over Greenland," Fine told Fox News Digital in an interview.
"Congress would still have to choose to make it a state, but this would simply authorize the president to do what he's doing and say the Congress stands behind him. And then it would expedite it into becoming a state, but it would still be up to Congress about whether to do that."
Fine is a pro-Israel legislator.
Greenland matters because the Arctic matters. Melting ice has turned what was once a frozen buffer into a contested corridor. Shipping lanes are emerging. Subsea cables snake across the ocean floor. Missile paths shorten. Surveillance gaps narrow. Russia knows this. China knows this. Both are investing heavily in Arctic presence, infrastructure and influence. You know, Antarctica is ripe for the picking, too.
Greenland should never become a state. If given statehood they would automatically get two senators and one representative in the house. With a population of only 57,000 it would give Greenland much larger influence in Congress as compared to other states.
