Former U.S. Solicitor General Kenneth Starr died at a Houston hospital on Tuesday at the age of 76.

He gained nationwide attention for his investigation into the Clinton Whitewater scandal in the 1990s, which morphed into discovering then President Bill Clinton’s affair with intern Monica Lewinsky. That led to Clinton’s impeachment trial.

In recent years, Starr was caught up in mishandling sexual scandals while head of a Texas university, and participating on the defense team of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
