After a grueling four days of 15 historical ballots over a hundred years plus to elect a Speaker of the U.S. House of Representative, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was elected the Speaker of the 118 Congress in the early morning hours of Saturday.

The final vote tally of 428 votes and six present votes are:

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA):  216;

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY): 212;

Present:                                         6.

“The Honorable Kevin McCarthy of California is elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives,” said the House Clerk Cheryl Johnson.

And, the U.S. House of Representatives newly elected members heard from the Speaker-elect McCarthy and the members-elect were sworn into office officially as duly recognized by law.
