One week into Israeli strikes on Iran, there are no signs of cracks within the Iranian regime, according to Israeli officials, reported the Jerusalem Post.

Although the stated goal of Israeli attacks on Iran is to destroy their nuclear weapons program, regime change certainly is also near, or at the top of the list.

“There are currently no indications that the central government in Tehran is losing control — quite the opposite. The Iranian regime appears to be tightening its grip,” the three officials said, reported JPost.com.

Dr. Raz Zimmt, director of the Iran Program at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), is not surprised. “It’s not surprising that no cracks are visible,” he told the Post.

“Most Iranians are hostile to the regime and oppose it, but there is a sense of national solidarity at the moment. Right now, the people are focused on one thing: survival.

“When they see Israeli strikes causing casualties and destruction — even if the regime is unpopular — the immediate threat is seen as Israel. That’s why people are rallying around the flag. I emphasize — not around the regime, but most of their anger is currently directed at Israel.”

Russian President Putin is becoming more vocal on the conflict.

"Israel today is almost a Russian-speaking country, a large number of people from the USSR live there, Moscow takes this into account," he declared.

"Russia is concerned about the threat of World War III. There is a lot of potential for conflict now. It is necessary to find solutions to conflicts in all areas, and by peaceful means.

"Trump promised to support Russia's demand to ensure the safety of Russian employees at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran."
