With fast breaking events, I like to let the dust settle a bit before making some observations. It’s been a couple of days, so here are some initial assessments.

  1. Zelensky dressed up for the wrong occasion: I get the para-military garb for certain contexts, however showing up like this made Zelensky look like a wartime leader trying to rally support for a continuation of the conflict. President Trump pointed this out immediately. A very bad idea for Zelensky.
  2. The phase of the conflict was supposed to be “Peace Making”: Lesson 101 of Conflict is that fighting will not end until all parties are tired of fighting. Zelensky apparently is not tired of fighting. Not sure about Putin, but the focus of this meeting was Zelensky.
  3. Pre-Meeting squandered: This was Zelensky’s pre-meeting opportunity with the U.S. to frame the follow on multi-party talks. Putin has had a couple of calls with President Trump. Secretary of State Rubio met with his Russian counterpart in Saudi Arabia. Zelensky blew it.
  4. Failure to say thank you: Zelensky should have been over the top gracious and thankful. He wasn’t. After he left, he “X”ed a thank you. But the long list of of replies were European leaders showing support for Zelensky.
  5. The Adults in the room: President Trump and Vice President Vance were the Adults. Zelensky showed no situational awareness of tone and opportunity lost.
  6. This is smelling like a contrived set up: The European leaders looked like they had pre-written their “X’s”. UK PM Starmer and French President Macron seemed to beat an advance path to President Trump before the meeting. This is was a coordinated stunt to “Get Trump”. In 2016 we had the “Russia, Russia, Russia” Hoax and the phone calls with Ukraine that the Vindman Twins helped role play into the first impeachment inquiry. This is looking like the first attempt to instigate an impeachment attempt by the Globalists. Here we go again. I don’t think this will get traction this time.
  7. The Europeans have a very poor track record on Peacemaking and Peacekeeping over the past 100 years. World War I was followed by harsh terms on Germany, when a German leader arose in light of those harsh terms, France and Great Britain did little. The Western European nations would not have survived WWII or post WWII without the United States. The European nations couldn’t handle a relatively small conflict in Bosnia. Now they want the U.S. to become ensnared in Ukraine into perpetuity.
  8. The Globalists say they want peace and then froth at the mouth about Russia and treat the Russians like the Great Satan. Please see the previous point.
  9. The Europeans have concerns about Russia. Some of these may be valid. However if they are valid, why are the Europeans failing to build their military forces? They aren’t - their own USAID like money laundering operations won’t allow it and they want the U.S. to pay for their security while they waste money on social programs.
  10. No one has been able to explain this duplicate “uber Government” of the European Union. The EU is an expansive, wasteful, bureaucratic, multi-national European USAID equivalent. For decades the EU has listed a military force that is exactly the same as NATO. In other words the EU has no military other than NATO and NATO wasn’t created for the EU. The EU may use this as a reason to dissolve NATO and claim the NATO forces for the EU. Good luck with that. Take out the U.S. portion and NATO is emasculated. But the Euro-philes will have their own military. Take out the UK, which is not in the EU, the EU has nothing.

This whole spectacle was a set up. Zelensky and the Globalists had few if any cards for the proposed negotiations. Now they have none.
