The tension between Islamist Turkey and The Jewish State is increasing in the Middle East and Africa as both sides look to increase influence. The turmoil comes as President Trump moves military force into Central Asia and beyond to prepare for a possible attack on the Iranian regime. Turkey has declared war in Iran will not help anyone in the region.

As Israel looks to remove the Iranian threat, Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett says Türkiye poses a “growing strategic threat” to Israel.

Bennett described President Erdogan as a “sophisticated and dangerous adversary” seeking to “surround” Israel.

He pointed to what he called an “emerging axis” involving Türkiye, Qatar, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Pakistani nuclear capabilities, accusing them of “fueling regional hostility” toward Israel.

Bennett urged Israel to confront “threats from both Ankara and Tehran simultaneously.”

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett issued a stark warning about Türkiye's regional ambitions, declaring the country under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to be "the new Iran" and a growing strategic threat to Israel's security.

At the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in Jerusalem, Bennett accused Ankara of expanding its influence across the Middle East in ways that could encircle Israel and undermine its position.

"A new Turkish threat is emerging," Bennett stated. "Turkey and Qatar have gained influence in Syria, are seeking influence elsewhere and everywhere throughout the region. And from here, I warn, Turkey is the new Iran. Erdogan is sophisticated, dangerous, and he seeks to encircle Israel. We can't close our eyes again."

Bennett highlighted what he described as Ankara's efforts to realign regional dynamics against Israel. He alleged that Türkiye is attempting to turn Saudi Arabia hostile toward Israel and foster a "hostile Sunni axis" that could include nuclear-armed Pakistan, drawing parallels to the influence model associated with Iran and its proxies.

The former prime minister emphasized the need for Israel to confront simultaneous challenges from both Tehran and Ankara. "We must act, in different ways but simultaneously, against the threat from Tehran and against the hostility from Ankara," he said, framing the Turkish challenge as requiring a coordinated strategic response.

Bennett's remarks also included domestic political commentary, criticizing Israel's current leadership for division and failures, particularly in the wake of past security crises. He called for renewed Zionist unity and suggested new leadership is necessary to navigate the evolving threats.

At a press conference while visiting Ethiopa, Turkish President Erdoğan addressed Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state, emphasizing that the move does not contribute to regional stability.

Turkish President Erdoğan said, “Israel’s recognition of Somaliland would benefit neither Somaliland nor the Horn of Africa,” highlighting potential negative effects on Somalia and the regional balance.

Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye’s position that countries in the region should develop solutions to their own challenges and warned against turning the Horn of Africa into a ground for foreign power struggles.
