Le Pen — currently leading in the polls — has been effectively barred from running in the 2027 presidential election.
French opposition leader Marine Le Pen has been found guilty of embezzeling funds from the European Parliament. She could face serious prison time, but likely the goal of the Macron regime is to bar her from running for the leadership of France in the future.
Public prosecutors have demanded Le Pen be given a €300,000 (£250,000) fine, a prison sentence and that she be prevented from holding or seeking to hold a political position or five years.
Any prison sentence would likely be suspended pending appeal.
She could face an immediate five-year ban from running for public office, potentially disqualifying her from the 2027 presidential election. This ban would apply even during an appeal process.
If she appeals, the case will go to retrial, likely in 2026, potentially complicating her campaign efforts.
