Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader Alice Weidel is saying out loud in Europe's globalist political class what they don't want to hear: The deliberate destruction of Germany's nuclear energy sector was ideological sabotage, and normalizing relations with Russia is in the German national interest.
Speaking publicly, Weidel did not mince words on the shutdown of Germany's nuclear plants:
"Germany once had the most modern nuclear power plants. We were world leaders, and these nuclear power plants produced CO₂-neutral electricity. They deliberately shut them down; they destroyed them. I call this deliberate technological and machine-smashing. Mao would have been proud of this federal government."

The comparison to Mao is not accidental. Germany's destroyers of technological value, obeying the ideological commandments of the federal government, destroyed the most modern and efficient nuclear power plants in the world. The forced shutdown — in which large portions of technical equipment were also physically destroyed — was a devastating blow to Germany's productive capacity. It was pure destruction in service of ideology.
Weidel was equally blunt on Russia:
"We have to obtain fossil fuels from wherever natural gas and oil are cheapest — namely, from Russia. It is in our own security interests as well as our economic interests to have good relations with Russia."

Prior to the Ukraine war, Germany sourced roughly 55 percent of its natural gas from Russia — the cheapest, most reliable pipeline energy on the global market, and the foundation of German industrial competitiveness for decades. The globalist political class blew that relationship up in service of NATO escalation doctrine. The result: German industry is hollowing out, energy costs have made German manufacturing increasingly uncompetitive, and deindustrialization is now being discussed as an inevitable policy outcome.
These politicians did not make Germany safer. They destroyed large parts of the German economy, gutted the prosperity of ordinary German citizens, and left the country more dependent and more vulnerable than before.
Mao, as Weidel notes, would indeed have been proud.
