Nikolai Patrushev, presidential advisor to Vladimir Putin, was quoted Monday by the Russian online newspaper AIF, saying that Poland would cease to exist as a state within two to three days if the country were to launch military action against Russia.
"Sikorski, apparently, does not realize that if Poland enters into military operations against Russia, our country will use the entire arsenal of available forces and means, and Polish statehood will cease to exist within two or three days," Patrushev told AIF in an interview. The adviser characterized the assessment of military superiority of Poland over Russia made by the Polish Foreign Minister as "amateurish."
"Of course, Sikorski doesn't get it. But if Poland starts a war against Russia, Polish statehood will cease to exist within two or three days. And we shall use the entire arsenal of forces and means at our disposal," Patrushev said.
The comments are not restricted to conventional warfare. Patrushev described Sikorski as an "amateur" who clearly has no understanding of military affairs. He said that the Polish foreign minister seemed to believe that Russia would fight against Poland using only conventional arms — but added that he was wrong.
It is worth noting that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that in case of a conflict with European countries, nuclear weapons could be used and then Russia would have "no one else to talk to." He, however, made an exception for the "brotherly nation" of Ukraine. For European NATO countries, however, Russia's military approach would be completely different.
Poland has, according to Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski, acquired sufficient military might in a short span of time to rapidly defeat Russia in a war. Patrushev dismissed those claims as detached from reality.
Patrushev's comments have highlighted the increasingly aggressive rhetoric between NATO and Russia along the Eastern Flank of the alliance. Recent weeks have seen an increase in drone incursions into NATO airspace, with the intercept of a drone over Lithuania on Tuesday morning being the latest in a series of incidents to prompt concern among Baltic and Eastern European member states.
Patrushev currently serves as a presidential aide to Vladimir Putin and is a former head of the Security Council — one of the most powerful positions in Russia's national security apparatus. His statements carry the weight of official Kremlin policy.
Since Trump has announced the US will have a military base in Poland, is Sikorski assuming the US will defend them against Russia?! And, Trump just signed Blumenthal’s proposed sanctions against Russia- so, does Trump plan on starting a war with Russia?!!!!
I hope he plans on contacting our Allies as well as NATO, before he does anything.
Not like the mistake he made with Iran. In fact if he would go to NATO right now
with this whole Iran thing, making them a part of the planning going forward, this
could be over sooner then later. However, the republicans would have to get back
their back-bone and do what's best for the country and it's people,
putting them first instead of trump.
Didn’t he say the same thing about Ukraine? Are they planning to use N Korea troops?
