A 15-year-old Guatemalan girl nearly met her maker on Saturday after suffering a severe case of chest pains while in the car with her father. Wide Open Country explains that the girl, Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, passed out in the car and when her father, Pastor Abraham Ixcotoyac, checked for a pulse and signs of breathing, he found neither and presumed she had died on the way to the hospital. He did not finish the trip to the hospital and instead began making arrangements for her funeral just hours later.

He told local media that “she had simply ceased to exist, she died on the way” and so he did not finish the trip to the hospital. She “did not go to hospital,” he said in the report published by Wide Open Country.

The teenager was buried just hours later by her grieving family who had assumed the worst. According to reports a doctor had never confirmed the diagnosis of death and therefore a death certificate was never issued by authorities.

In Guatemala, burial of the dead is typically done as quickly as possible. The girl’s family had bought a simple coffin and were having her funeral. Wide Open Country reported that the time between the collapse and the moment when they would bury Yuleidy in her coffin was eight hours. According to The New York Post and Wide Open Country, mourners had gathered at the Ixcotoyac family home in El Jocote, a rural village where the family lived. They arrived at 2:30 pm.

Video from the wake shows a crowd of mourners gathered around a wooden casket of Yuleidy. Her mother, Lesvia Ríos, is shown weeping over the casket of her teenage daughter and at one point leaning over it to look inside. “When I was crying on top of her casket, we opened the window, and she was moving, she was waking up, and suddenly she sat up,” the mother said according to Breitbart reports. “I kept saying she was alive; she wasn’t dead,” said Ríos, according to The New York Post reports.

As family and friends gather around the casket, they can’t believe their eyes as the 15-year-old teenager suddenly shoots up from the coffin wearing a pink T-shirt and begins speaking to the stunned onlookers. She is given water by family members and soon the group erupts into jubilation with others cheering and filming the miraculous scene with hallelujahs pouring out from their lips.

The teenager is at home now, recovering, Breitbart said. Through a translator, Yuleidy said, “My heart was hurting really badly. It hurt really badly and then it felt heavy and then I would black out like I would faint.” She thanked God for her life.

Many expressed their shock to the viral video in comments, including “Note to self - don't faint in Guatemala” and then there were people wondering how soon she was placed in the coffin for her funeral. One user has even stated that they now want to be cremated for fear of waking up in a coffin underground.
