In a major win for the Trump administration's efforts to solve the Iranian nuclear crisis, President Trump declared the U.S. will meet directly with Iran this Saturday in Oman to begin negotiations on a nuclear weapons deal.

For their part, the Iranians said the first round would be 'indirect', and if they went well, direct negotiations would follow.

This is a major change to the Iranian position and a nod to Trump's military pressure on the issue.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared, "Iran and the United States will meet in Oman on Saturday for indirect high-level talks. It is as much an opportunity as it is a test. The ball is in America's court."

"Talks with the U.S. will be indirect, and we will not accept any other negotiation format.  We chose indirect negotiations to avoid threats and pressure from Washington. What matters is the effectiveness of talks and the will to reach a deal. A real agreement is possible if the other side is serious."

"Our main goal is lifting sanctions and easing our people’s hardship."

President Trump announced the negotiations during yesterday's visit with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at The White House.

U.S. air assets and naval forces continue to strike Houthi positions in Yemen.
