The Israeli military continues operations in Lebanon against the Shia Iran-backed militia Hezbollah across the country. The Shia sector in Beirut is being heavily targeted, as well as militia strongholds in the south and in the Bekka Valley.

The Israel Defense Forces said Sunday that five top commanders in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were killed in an Israeli Navy strike targeting a hotel room in Beirut.

The IDF, in a statement, said the commanders who were killed “while hiding in a civilian hotel” were members of the Quds Force, the IRGC’s extraterritorial arm, in its Palestine and Lebanon corps, and were involved in aiding Hezbollah and Hamas with funds and intelligence, reported The Times of Israel.

“The Iranian terror regime systematically operates among civilian populations in both Iran and Lebanon, cynically exploiting residents and using them as human shields to further terrorist objectives,” the IDF said in a statement prior to publishing the names of the targets.

Lebanese officials recently met with Trump Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack, and asked him to mediate with Israel to reach an agreement that would end the war according to sources, reported Maco.co.il.

Barak's message was, "if you want our help against Israel, stop with the bullshit. If there is no real action on the issue of Hezbollah's weapons, there is no point," said one of the sources.

The Israeli government was informed of the Lebanese appeal, but reacted very coolly, saying it was too late. The Israelis made it clear that they were now focused on eliminating Hezbollah, one of the sources said.

On Monday evening, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar met with the UN envoy to Lebanon and discussed the Lebanese proposal.

Lebanon has asked the U.S. to help arrange direct negotiations with Israel to stop the war, but both Washington and Israel responded skeptically.

Lebanon’s leadership is frustrated by the lack of U.S. engagement as hundreds of thousands flee the fighting, reported Axios.

Hezbollah reignited the war by restarting rocket fire into southern Israel; Israel has responded ferociously.

Israeli officials are preparing for a prolonged military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon that could last as long as—or longer than—the ongoing conflict with Iran, writes FT.
