UPDATE: Donald Trump achieves ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

The United States has turned its attention towards peace in Lebanon. The move comes as the midterm elections in the US are fast approaching and the Middle East wars are a roadblock to Republicans successfully holding on to power.
It remains true that Lebanon is a Christian country, in fact the only Christian nation in the Levant, and the U.S. is primarily Christian. So, it is natural for America to focus on this Balkanized piece of land.
The main sticking point is disarming the Shia military force which controls the south -- Hezbollah.
Israel sees the group as a threat, but many Lebanese see Hezbollah as now a part of the nation's fabric. It is reported up to 40% of the Lebanese army is Shia. This makes disarming the group all the more difficult.
Yet, Trump seems willing to try.
President Trump posted on Truth Social this morning -- "Trying to get a little breathing room between Israel and Lebanon.
"It has been a long time since the two leaders have spoken, like 34 years. It will happen tomorrow. Nice!"
Israel says Netanyahu will soon speak with Lebanon’s president Joseph Aoun, according to an Israeli official, reported regional media.
"We believe that peace with Israel is a good thing, we can't remain in this state of war endlessly with them, especially since the war has always been between the muslims and them and not us," said a source on the ground in Beirut this morning.
"The only question is, what will be the price of the peace?
"There are three things that concern us as Christians:
- That they force us to naturalise all of the Palestinians who live in refugee camps here (they've been here for decades but have no legal status) and who number around 400k all sunni muslims.
- Permanently displace Shiias from the south which would push them into Christian lands.
- Reach a deal with the Muslims whereby they would disarm and all that but gain more political power at the expense of Christians"

Former Trump Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack seems to have disappeared from the Lebanese portfolio, and has been replaced in negotiations by Michel Issa, the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon.
Free Patriotic Movement leader Gebran Bassil spoke on CNN about the possibility of another Lebanese civil war recently. FPM is one of the largest Christian parties in Lebanon.
