The United States concluded its seventh consecutive night of strikes on Iran early Saturday, this time expanding the target set beyond military installations to include at least five bridges across southern Iran and a train station in the port city of Bandar Khamir, according to ABC News Australia and Sky News. Iranian state media reported seven people killed in the bridge and rail strikes, with the Bandar Khamir attacks also disabling drinking water infrastructure for roughly 10,000 residents inland — a development Tehran's state media was quick to frame as deliberate targeting of civilians.
Washington has offered no public apology for the infrastructure strikes. US officials, speaking to reporters on background per ABC News, say the expanding target set is designed to "give Trump options". Brent crude climbed 3 percent Friday on the news, its third consecutive weekly gain, putting inflationary pressure squarely on the president ahead of November congressional elections.

Iran's response overnight was its most operationally significant since the ceasefire collapsed. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that its Navy command at the Strait of Hormuz had stopped four vessels attempting to pass through the waterway with US Navy support, using what the IRGC described as a "combined missile and drone operation," according to NDTV and the Indian Express citing the IRGC statement. Two oil tankers subsequently exploded and caught fire after passing through a mined route south of the strait, Iranian media reported. CENTCOM publicly dismissed Tehran's claims about the tanker damage, calling them false — but offered no explanation for the visible fires. In a separate incident, armed men seized another vessel off Yemen, raising alarm about the Red Sea chokepoint as well.
Iran hit back on land too. Strikes on power and desalination infrastructure in Kuwait were confirmed by Kuwaiti officials, with Iranian state television quoting the IRGC as warning that until US "aggression" ends, not a "single drop of oil and gas" would leave the region. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the military would not allow Iranian blood to be spilt "in vain." Senior adviser to Supreme Leader Khamenei, Mohsen Rezaei, warned that several more days of US strikes could trigger escalation that Washington would not be able to contain.
The pattern here is important and underreported: the US keeps bombing, Iran keeps expanding the geographic and infrastructure scope of its retaliation into Gulf states that are American partners. Neither side has a face-saving exit. Oil markets are pricing in a prolonged conflict. US congressional mid-terms are less than four months away.
