Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly broke with President Trump's own Middle East peace framework on Sunday, flatly rejecting the U.S.-backed 15-point Gaza plan at a cabinet meeting. The announcement is a direct rebuke of Trump's Board of Peace — the international coalition Trump launched earlier this year that developed the plan and secured Hamas's agreement to it last month.
"Israel rejects the 15-point document," Netanyahu said at the Sunday cabinet meeting, according to a readout from his office. "The Israeli military will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed" — meaning not the phased, verified disarmament process the Board of Peace had negotiated, but a full unconditional surrender Netanyahu himself would define. He then added: "As long as I am prime minister, no Palestinian state will be established — not in Gaza and not in the West Bank."
Netanyahu acknowledged that the Trump administration has been informed of his objections, but framed the rift as a matter of Israeli resolve. "They have ideas, some of which are acceptable to us and some are not, and we know how to stand up to those things," he said. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, whose coalition faction Netanyahu needs to survive politically, immediately lauded the rejection: "The IDF cannot retreat one millimeter in the Gaza Strip."
The timing is not incidental. Netanyahu faces a re-election vote in late October, and his far-right coalition partners have been explicit about their desire to expand Israeli military control in Gaza — not end it.
