The FBI's 2025 Uniform Crime Report is historic. Violent crime dropped 9.3% last year, the largest one-year drop ever recorded. Homicides (murder and non-negligent manslaughter) dropped 18.1% and tied with both 1955 and 1956 for the lowest murder rate in 70 years at 4.1 per 100,000 people.
President Trump shared the news Friday from the Nassau County Police Academy on Long Island where he credited those officers for the turnaround.
"With your help, last year we achieved the largest drop in murder rate ever recorded — the lowest level in 125 years. That's since the year 1900," said President Trump. "And today, I'm thrilled to announce that the FBI has just released a new Uniform Crime Report, showing that in 2025, we achieved the single largest reduction in violent crime in American history."
The good news continued beyond homicides. Robbery was down 18.5%, motor vehicle theft fell 22.7%, and burglary was down 15.8%. Hate crime incidents dropped by approximately 7%. Rape was also down 7.6%, and the overall numbers show that 2025 was the safest year in a generation.
Trump stated his administration had arrested 1.2 million criminals since he returned to office, increased federal criminal prosecutions by more than 50 percent, and nearly doubled FBI arrests for violent crime. He stated 2026 is looking even better, with preliminary data showing murders and robberies continuing to fall, down around 23 percent and 20 percent respectively through mid-year.
The Council on Criminal Justice supported the trend with data from 30 cities tracked through the first half of 2026, recording a homicide rate 18 percent lower than the same period in 2025 — representing 215 fewer killings.
FBI Director Kash Patel was at the event and stated, "This FBI has led the charge to arrest eight of the top 10 most wanted fugitives on planet Earth in the last sixteen months."
Washington D.C. recorded the most dramatic numbers. Compared to the previous year, homicides fell 45 percent, carjackings fell 64 percent, and motor vehicle thefts fell 53 percent — a direct result of the National Guard deployment the D.C. Council has been trying to end.
Crime data analysts offered a note of caution about attributing the drop to any single policy. Adam Gelb, CEO of the Council on Criminal Justice, noted that crime rates were falling in cities with vastly different economic conditions, public safety strategies, and political leadership. But the scope and consistency of the decline across geography and crime type is not something that can be dismissed.
For years, the establishment media defended rising crime rates as "narratives" or "systemic" causes beyond policymakers' control. The FBI has now put hard numbers on what results from enforcement-first policing, immigration crackdowns, and sustained pressure on repeat offenders. In 2025: 3,100 fewer murder victims than in 2024. Ten thousand fewer rapes. One million fewer total violent incidents.
The full causal picture is still being studied. But Americans are measurably safer than they were four years ago — and the people least likely to acknowledge that are the same ones who told you the crisis was not real.
However, prosecutions for deep state operatives and those involved in the coup over the last decade against the United States have not happened. Many Americans do not trust the FBI or law enforcement for that reason. There is still a long way to go to regain trust.
