James Talarico, Democratic Senate nominee in Texas, was missing from the campaign trail for two long weeks. Today, in a surprise twist, independent journalist Nick Sortor has a recording of an Ohio psychiatric facility saying that James Talarico was just discharged there tonight.

Sortor and Rhein Amacher had given Talarico’s campaign until 1 pm ET to answer for the nominee’s disappearance from the campaign trail. When no response was forthcoming the two independent journalists went ahead and published the audio of the phone call to the Lindner Center of Hope.

Amacher called the Center and asked for information on James Talarico. After a long pause a woman who answered the phone said, “It looks like he was just discharged this evening,” and added, “That’s why I don’t have it.”

Sortor, who has called the campaign’s flu explanation “a BIG FAT LIE,” says the recording shows otherwise.

Talarico was spotted at the Austin City Limits music festival on Friday, where he reportedly interacted with festival-goers for 15 minutes and took a few photos. The New York Times reported on the nominee’s brief foray back into the public eye.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is likely to face Talarico in the general election, noticed the strange absence of the Democratic candidate on Fox News Friday night. “I’ve been in a lot of races,” he said. “This is the strangest one I’ve ever seen. I’ve never had a candidate disappear for almost two weeks, doing no public appearances, no explanation of why until now.”

Republican strategist Caroline Wren shared information on Saturday which on its face is quite circumstantial but does line up with the new audio released Sunday of an employee of the Lindner Center of Hope in Ohio. Using flight tracking information for private planes, Wren said a plane departed from Austin and traveled to a small airport in the town of Hamilton, Ohio. Hamilton is a 20 minute or so drive to the Lindner Center of Hope, a private inpatient mental health treatment facility. By her account the plane then flew back to Austin and landed at 10:24 a.m. on Friday morning, hours before Talarico appeared at the Austin City Limits festival.

The story was picked up by many big accounts. Elon Musk commented on the Sortor and Amacher post saying, “The Talarico campaign is hiding something big that voters ought to know about.” Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt argued that a campaign going radio silent for nearly two weeks suggests it is hiding something.

We don’t know for sure the details of Talarico’s disappearance but we do know some things for sure. The recording posted by Sortor and Amacher is of a single phone call with a single hospital employee. The campaign has not publicly addressed the details of the call, according to ZeroHedge’s report. Medical records are private documents and a single comment by an employee of a hospital is not a diagnosis.

The biggest question of the campaign season so far remains: where was James Talarico and why won’t his campaign simply confirm?
