In the last month I've had to go into Manhattan on a couple occasions for business, as I have done countless times over the last few decades.
I was assaulted on both excursions.
The first incident was on the Upper East Side at the subway station near 77th and Lexington. As I made my way down the stairs into the station mid-day, I noticed a white homeless man, mid-thirties, verbally assaulting moms and their children walking down the sidewalk. He had large, open sores all over his face and was obviously mentally ill; you could see it in his eyes.
I walked down to the machine to add funds to my Metro Card, carelessly turning my back on the lobby of the station, after all it was the Upper East. Suddenly I felt a push from behind and turned around to face the homeless guy screaming in my face to 'leave him alone', his diseased spittle hitting me in the face. Police were no where to be seen.
I stared him down and he eventually walked off.
The second incident was on Park Ave north of Grand Central during the evening. Having exited a meeting and walking to my car, a young black man exited a darkened doorway and demanded money, threatening to 'give me a beating' for 'messing with him'. I stared him down also, and he walked away. My friend who lives in the area and was with me that night, described to me how the kid later that evening locked a Chinese man in a market, not letting him out until the man gave him cash.
I worked in NYC for over ten years; I never have been assaulted until now.
This reality is the result of the 'progressive' policies of incompetent Mayor Bill de Blasio (a.k.a. Warren Wilhelm Jr.), and more-importantly, the idiotic, empty-minded New York liberals who elected him.
The subways of New York City are falling apart. They are filthy, grimy, rusting and an embarrassment. They reek of urine and vomit. There are homeless everywhere. People are getting pushed in front of trains.
The trains are also few and far between. I had to wait 30 minutes for an E train to the airport recently from Manhattan. Once the train did arrive, it was full to the brim, and I had to wait for another.
Upon boarding there were homeless sleeping in the subway car; no one could sit. A young, gay, black man walked in obviously panhandling for money. He had pink hair and short shorts. He then turned on his boom box and started poll dancing in front of me, before shaking down passengers on the forty minute ride to JFK.
A few months ago, I also boarded an E car to JFK airport as I noticed it was empty. There was a reason for this. A large black man had taken off his clothes, and was crawling around on the floor naked, diarrhea and vomit trailing him.
Homeless people hover around the entrances to Grand Central Terminal and assault people as they leave the station. The cops just watch.
New York City is no longer safe and it is no longer a place suitable to conduct business.
I will look for another more pleasant city to arrange meetings in the future, where I can feel safe from attack by diseased mental patients, a place where I don't have to step over homeless or endure gay pole dancers on the metro.
Our great and beautiful country is gone...If this country turns communist, these mentally ill, drug addicted human pieces of garbage will not be tolerated, taken out and shot dead...guaranteed.
Would be welcomed by most people
I grew up in NYC during its "Golden Age", the 1940s and 50s. NYC government has always been problematical - venal, corrupt, ineffective but the pols kept order for their own self-interest. They knew that once people felt threatened, the pols would be gone. Now, 40% of the population does not speak English as a first language and they know that regardless of how bad things get, it's still an improvement over the Third World toilets they're from. Sorry, the cavalry is not riding to the rescue. NYC is lost.
THE REST OF NY STATE WOULD GLADLY USE A GIANT CHAIN SAW TO CUT THAT DISEASE FILTH AWAY FROM THE MAINLAND AND CHEER AS IT SANK BENEATH THE WAVES OF THE ATLANTIC.
The last time I was in Manhattan on business in the late 70's and early 80's the homeless situation wasn't near as bad as Los Angeles where a person couldn't park in a shopping Mall Lot without being hustled for cash, call a Cop and they disappear then reappear when the Police leave......The only solution is making the city so difficult for the bums to live they will "go some where else".....Florida ?????? But that won't happen in "Sanctuary" California or Socialist New York both city and State Governments heavily Controlled by Liberal Democrats...........The Police have their Hands tied !!!!!!!
I saw my far left liberal democrat, educated, professional couple relatives a couple days ago. They live in Brooklyn. They have a 3 year old adopted daughter. They were complaining that the NYC Hasidim are spreading measles because they refuse the societal norm of common vaccinations.
Liberals cause problems with their incessant suicidal moral high ground. Then they get indignant when the results of their actions affect them. Then they move away and go wreck some other community.

Of course it is unsafe in that city along with so many other Dem controlled cities, it is now normal and the slaves who vote deserve their slavery for accepting the plantation life.
Liberals who flee the violent, feces and syringe filled cities they created end up destroying their new home town too. Because they vote in the Democrap candidate who pushes the same idiotic policies. This is happening currently in many cities where CA and NY liberals have fled to. All over America, well ordered, clean, polite towns are being destroyed by liberals who move there. They are societal cancer.
Bingo. In a democracy you get the government you deserve. The voters of NYC who vote for these slimeballs deserve this.
I'm 78 and grew up in the 1950s. I lived in California's "golden times". San Francisco was a wonderful town. So was Los Angeles. Clean. People helped each other. Only 1/3rd the population of today. Police kept the streets cleanrd of bums. I never saw a bum anywhere in California until I returned from the military and spent time on L.A.'s Skid Row getting over PTSD. They didn't call it that back then. You just had to work your way out of it and most of us who might have suffered from it did. I watched the death of California starting with Jerry Brown. I watched the rotting away of the country starting with Johnson's Great Society. Common sense slowly disappeared and wacko PC took over. Who wants to go to San Fran now? Last time I was there with my grandkids some guy fell over in front of us at Pier 39 with a needle sticking out of his arm. Another bum tried to get a quarter from my grandson until I told him to "get the hell out". Bums prowling the parking garages, trying doors, sticking knives in tires. I'll never go back. Now I have hundreds of bums living in Santa Cruz. My two grandkids visit two blocks from the Boardwalk on the beach. They are never allowed to walk those two blocks alone. I took buses to the beaches in L.A. when I was 10 years old and these poor kids can't wall two blocks alone for fear of being kidnapped, molested, or stabbed. Five stabbings in 6 weeks within a block and a half from where I'm typing this. The west and east coasts have become a jungle. My time is almost up, but I've lived the good life here. I feel sorry for the rest of you. My advice? Buy a gun. Buy several. Always carry. My wife and daughter don't go out without their Beretta Tomcats. I carry my old SW .38 in my car and a Taurus on me. Better safe than sorry.
NYC has been an open sewer for many years. Hank William Jr sang about it back in the 1970s.
Well, your requirement rules out San Francisco and Los Angeles as well. Perhaps Dallas would be the place. I would seek out Republican run states and cities if I were you. Seems everywhere Democrats take over, it ends the same way. Homelessnes poverty crime and crazies.
Move to Newark.
I lived in NYC until 2016, and although I have not been back since May, I doubt it has changed as much as you have described. It sounds more like you went to Philadelphia than NYC. I used to ride the M train from Newtown/Grand Ave. station in Elmhurst then transfer to the at the 71st station for several years, and the only time I ever had to wait 30 min (or more) for the E train was in the middle of the night like after midnight, and it was never anywhere near capacity at those times. Years earlier I would ride the 6 train and the F train at all hours and due to construction that would be a nightmare after around 10 pm with track closures. I would sometimes catch the 6 train very late, once at 4 am and I was the only person in the station (68th and Lex) and the only person on the entire train. (I took pictures the entire way back bc it was funny. I didn't see another soul until I was back in Elmhurst.
I also used to live in the UES and the worst trouble I ever had there was walking to work behind a fat woman in black spandex. I have seen some weird happenings on the subway, but nothing close to what you described. The worst thing I remember about NYC was the idiot tourists in Midtown/Times Square area. Maybe you were just very unlucky the last two times you went?
The problem is not the mentally ill on the streets. The problem is the mentally ill in positions of power, like De Blasio.
Thank you for your honesty about our city. The people in New York have lost their spirit, because our Governor is an idiot and people like De Blasio are destroying our cities. As long as NY is a Democratic stronghold we will continue to decline.
