It is one year to the day since the young conservative icon was assassinated at Utah Valley University and on the anniversary of his death the official Netflix account for the entertainment giant's UK and Ireland operation posted a sick joke.
Netflix UK posted a scene from the movie The Gentlemen on the anniversary of the killing of Charlie Kirk, the conservative commentator who was shot in the neck and killed allegedly by a gunman at Utah Valley University in 2025. The scene shows a man trying to look up at something and comments "Nearly did himself a neck injury."
Across the country on UTVU campus in Orem, Utah where Kirk died on Sept 10th, 2025, the State of Utah declared this day 'Charlie Kirk Day' and closed the entire University on this day of remembrance for a very powerful leader who actually believed in engaging with all people of all ideologies freely and openly.
As the market began to respond to the news that Netflix is still around after this contemptuous act, the contrast between Silicon Valley and the rest of the country's response to Charlie Kirk's assassination was stark. While Netflix' social media team are no doubt busy laughing about how they 'got away with it', the movement that Charlie Kirk founded is honoring his memory.
Kirk founded the largest conservative youth organization in the country before he was assassinated while attempting to have an open dialogue with a student. That was the type of conversation he engaged in every day for his entire career.
The stock price for Netflix reportedly fell today after a deluge of cancellations were recorded by the online platform after they posted a joke about Charlie Kirk on the one-year anniversary of his assassination. It is unknown whether the loss will stick, but those who supported Charlie Kirk are clearly stating that there is a price to be paid for such contempt and they intend to collect it.
