President Donald Trump rallied Texas Republicans at a packed Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio on Wednesday night, urging the crowd to “pretend that I’m on the ballot” as he worked to energize Texas Republicans ahead of the November 3 midterms, Newsweek and the San Antonio Express-News report.

The president spent nearly two hours on the stage of Freeman Coliseum speaking to a packed house of Republicans, calling Senate nominee Ken Paxton “perhaps the greatest attorney general in the United States of America” and predicting he would be an unbelievable senator, also thanking and praising House candidates Carlos De La Cruz and Tano Tijerina and also praising the work of current Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.

He continued to push the promise of $5,000 checks to every American if Republicans hold Congress, which he said would be sent in two days after the elections. In addition, he said $100 Medicare reimbursement checks would begin to arrive at the homes of 20 million seniors this week. “We’re giving that money back to American seniors, as I promised,” he said, declaring that the country is in “the Golden Age of America.”

For much of the night, Trump bashed Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, whom he accused of backing sanctuary cities, opposing border wall construction and threatening Texas’ oil and gas industry. “If they get in, they will open your borders and let the entire world pour in,” Trump told the crowd. That topic drew some of the night’s loudest applause, Newsweek reported.

And he said again tonight that the war with Iran would end “very soon,” the Express-News reported.

As the president spoke, the rally was repeatedly interrupted by protesters, with nearly a dozen people escorted out, the Express-News reported. Newsweek reported that “scuffles” broke out in the crowd as protesters were escorted out of the venue. Trump dismissed them. “Many of these protesters, they’re paid, you know that. They’re paid by enemies of our nation.”

The Texas rally, part of the President’s final push to get out the vote in the lead-up to the midterms, reflects a White House strategy that relies on Trump to propel Paxton and the rest of the Republican ticket to victory. The President also used the rally to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to former baseball pitcher Roger Clemens.
